This story has been close to my heart for a long time, and I can’t wait to introduce you to Ondina, a heroine who is not your typical pirate—or maybe she is, just in her own unexpected way…
What’s the story about?
“Ondina en de Piratensoep” is a funny and thrilling pirate adventure with a twist. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:
- A legendary pirate father
- A clever, clumsy, and courageous girl in the lead
- Themes of loss, memory, creativity, and imagination
- A heartwarming tale about discovering your own kind of strength
Ondina is the daughter of the fearless pirate Riccardo, but she couldn’t feel more different from him. She’s a bit clumsy and unsure of herself—until one fateful day, when a gang of pirates barges into her mother’s inn. It’s then that Ondina discovers what she is good at: thinking outside the box to protect the people and places she loves.
Why this book matters to me
This story is an ode to stories themselves—to the power of imagination, to the way we process loss, and to how creativity can be our greatest superpower. I wanted to write a heroine who doesn’t need to swing a sword to be brave. Ondina uses her mind, her heart, and her wild ideas to stand her ground.
It’s a book for dreamers, misfits, and adventurers of all ages—especially the little ones who are still figuring out what makes them strong.
What’s next?
The book will be available in bookstores across the Netherlands and Belgium in autumn 2025, and I’ll be sharing on my Instagram account sneak peeks, artwork, and behind-the-scenes updates as we get closer to the launch.
I’m so grateful to Clavis for believing in Ondina’s story and bringing it to life with their incredible team. And thank you to everyone who’s supported me on this creative journey—it means the world.
Stay tuned for more updates… and get ready for a splash of adventure!
